Microsoft Quantum Team
Meet the expert behind Microsoft's quantum computing initiative, leading the development of next-generation quantum systems

Dr. Chetan Nayak
Technical Fellow & Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Quantum
Dr. Chetan Nayak is a Technical Fellow and Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, leading the company's quantum computing initiatives. He is a renowned expert in topological quantum computation and condensed matter physics.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Dr. Nayak was a professor of physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University and has published numerous influential papers in the field of quantum computing.
Under his leadership, Microsoft's quantum team is developing a scalable quantum computer using topological qubits, which are more stable and less prone to errors than traditional qubits.
His research focuses on topological quantum computation, which offers a more robust approach to quantum computing by using topological properties of matter to protect quantum information from environmental noise and decoherence.
Microsoft Azure Quantum
These types of machines offer important opportunities to develop quantum skills, build hybrid applications and drive new discovery, particularly as AI is combined with new quantum systems that will be powered by larger numbers of reliable qubits.
Today, Azure Quantum offers a suite of integrated solutions allowing customers to leverage these leading AI, high performance computing and quantum platforms in Azure to advance scientific discovery.
